Together for Tai Po
Supporting families affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire
As Hong Kong continues to navigate the aftermath of the Tai Po fire, our hearts remain firmly with the thousands of families affected by this tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in this tragic event and our thoughts are with the injured and displaced residents during this difficult time.
We are so grateful to all those who have reached out, offering their time, resources and compassion. There is still much work to be done to set up the infrastructure for long-term support but, with your support, Feeding Hong Kong will be there to help as needed on the road to recovery – with food and care.
Our response and ongoing support
Community collaboration is at the heart of all we do at Feeding Hong Kong.
We are working hand-in-hand with on-the-ground charities to understand the needs of the community, so that resources can be redirected to the right people at the right time. This includes responding to any immediate requests for food support, whilst preparing to help as families transition to temporary shelters and, eventually, settle into new homes.
To manage the incredible influx of generosity from food companies and individuals, we have secured additional warehouse space and logistics support. Our dedicated Together for Tai Po Foodbank will act as a safe and central deposit for food donations to be distributed when and where needed, whilst crucially minimising waste.
How you can help
- Funds: Financial donations will ensure that we can meet the ongoing and evolving needs of affected families over time. They will help us purchase and distribute food, as well as meal and supermarket vouchers. As an example, a donation of HK$250 will help us source, pack and deliver one care pack, with up to 10kg of non-perishable food staples.
- Food: At this stage, long dated items with 6+ months shelf life such as rice, cooking oil, oats, canned goods and quick, no-cook items like crackers, biscuits, cup noodles, instant soup, breakfast cereal and UHT milk or tea are the most helpful. Please drop off donations directly at the Feeding Hong Kong warehouse 7/F.
- Friends: We have had incredible support from a team of dedicated volunteers to sort and pack the donations already received. As we navigate the next steps, we’ll be calling out for more volunteers and will share opportunities to get involved shortly.
Community collaboration
We are committed to working with local organisations on the ground to effectively distribute your donations and support those in need.
We are actively working with our network to establish those that are providing direct assistance to affected families. If you are a charity working on the frontline of the relief efforts, please contact us at: [email protected]
We’re so grateful for the continued offers of support and the community’s energy and heartfelt desire to help. Thank you for working with us to channel this goodwill and generosity to where it can help the most today, tomorrow and beyond.
