1.4 million people in Hong Kong live in poverty, and Covid-19 has only exacerbated the situation. The combination of school closures, job disruptions, health risks and rising food prices have pushed many from just getting by to struggling to get by. As a result, many of our frontline partners are currently facing 2-3 times normal demand. Not only are they having to increase their distribution to meet this demand but having to do so at the same time as pivoting their normal ways of distributing food and overcoming a multitude of other challenges from funding and manpower shortages to limited storage and transportation.

The solution isn’t just in the hands of one group. It will take a joint effort – from government, corporates & the NGO sector. Equally important is the need for a coordinated effort – for all of us to work together to ensure that the vulnerable and marginalised – whether seniors, low income families, streetsleepers, migrant workers, refugees or asylum seekers – have support to turn to.

Over the last six months, we have remained fully operational to ensure vulnerable communities continue to be fed and we’ve had some incredible support from corporate partners, individual donors and volunteers, and the food industry.

We have seen corporate partners finding innovative ways to help even though they haven’t been able to volunteer in large groups. Individual donors increasing their donations and using part of their HK$10,000 from the Cash Payout Scheme to provide even more support those in need. Restaurant partners stepping in to deliver delicious hot meals to charities whose services would otherwise have been stopped.

Amazing people like you have kept us operational, and enabled us to continue to keep food flowing to where it is needed most during these unprecedented, uncertain times. Thanks to your support, we have been able to deliver food for over 1.8 million meals to fight hunger in Hong Kong.
