The Bread Run
Help us bridge the gap between hunger and food waste by helping us collect fresh bread and sandwiches from shops across Hong Kong at closing time.
The Bread Run engages individual and pairs of volunteers in the nightly collection of surplus fresh bread. Each bread runner visit 1-2 stores at closing time to pick up the surplus and then delivers the items to a designated FHK drop-off point. All bread run donations are redistributed amongst the FHK charity network the same night or first thing the following morning.
There are three ways you can support the Bread Run:
1. Become a weekly FHK volunteer
Join our dedicated group of weekly bread runners and fresh food collection assistants and sign up to pick up from your closest bakery one night a week. All regular weekly pick-ups are dropped off directly at a nearby shelter or community centre. Complete our online Volunteer Application Form to get started.
2. Join the FHK Bread Run
Every Tuesday and Thursday night there are opportunities to get involved! Check out our upcoming Bread Runs here.
Want to organise a special group volunteer activity for your friends, family or colleagues? Every Tuesday and Thursday night, Feeding Hong Kong works with dedicated groups of volunteers who commit to pick up bread from 20 stores or more. A group Bread Run is a great way to engage 15-100 individuals in a shared volunteer activity that both reduces food waste and helps feed people in need. Contact FHK today to book in your team of Bread Runners!
A very special thanks to our Bread Run donors Arome, La Rose Noire, Maxim’s Cakes, Orchid Padaria, Pret a Manger and Saint Honore.
