Each month, we’ll be shining a light on one of our charity partners – the organisations working on the frontline of poverty relief in Hong Kong, distributing food directly to those most in need. To launch the section, Connie Shuen – our Charities Manager – explains why these partnerships are so special to Feeding HK and how we’ll be developing our charity network in the year ahead.
‘Poverty has the power to isolate and separate individuals and families in a community. It is a struggle faced by many developing countries worldwide, but it is also a real challenge for affluent cities like Hong Kong. However, if we face this challenge together and work in partnership to find sustainable solutions, I believe there is cause for hope. This is why I am delighted to be a part of Feeding Hong Kong as partnership is at the heart of what we do – working with food companies and local charities to fight for those living in poverty and facing food insecurity.
As Charities Manager, my primary role is to nurture and take care of the 60+ charities in our partner network. This includes addressing their current service needs and food demands, and supporting them with food safety and nutrition advice. I will also be looking to develop and establish new partnerships in areas of need, to ensure that all donations that flow through the Feeding HK warehouse are directed to where they can make the greatest difference. Collaboration makes everything possible and I look forward to working with all of you to build a better Hong Kong with more care, love and concern’.
